THE BURNING MAN EXPERIENCE - 2012

The plans are taking shape fast for the plans of bringing the CO2 performance to Burning Man in the end of August 2012. The above CO2 tag is the second sketch for the route of the performance.

The above video is with David Koren who brought elements of Burning Man out to the world in the shape of a wonderful project on Governors Island in New York called Figment.
The CO2 E - Race Project is a natural progression of The Triangle Project, who collaborated with Figment in 2008 on Governors Island, as part of the exhibition Emergence.

COLLABORATION WITH TOUR 2012 EUROPE

The CO2 E - Race will in 2012 change name and be called "CO2 Green Drive". In December 2011 we also became a part of TOUR2012EUROPE with an invitation to produce the CO2 Performance in 14 different cities in Europe, from Stockholm in the north to Lisbon in the south.

REVENGE OF THE ELECTRIC CAR IN COPENHAGEN DURING CPH:DOX

On November 7th 2011, Chris Paine's "Revenge of the Electric Car" will be shown in Denmark during the Copenhagen Documentary Film Festival - CPH:DOX.

The above image is of Chris Paine when he was in Copenhagen 2009 during COP15. The 3rd version of CO2 E - Race Project during COP15 was documented for "Revenge of the Electric Car", but was taken out in the final edit.

The above is of Chris Paine talking to the Danish Climate Minister in 2010 Lykke Friis, in connection to his visit to Roskilde Festival where he produced a film for the American Embassy about the New Jersey Punk band Titus Andronicus and their perspective on sustainability and Roskilde Festivals way of handling trash as American Ambassadors in Denmark.

The above image is of Chris Paine while driving the Electric Nimbus, that is the worlds oldest converted registered bike. The conversion was done by the Danish scientist Axel Boisen and the location for the image is in the courtyard of Hotel King Arthur where Chris was staying, that is also the location for the after party in connection to the screening of "Revenge of the Electric Car" in Copenhagen.

In connection to Earth Day NYC and the New York version of CO2 E - Race on April 22nd 2011, Chris Paine opened the day with a speech at the Solar One Building on West 23rd Street waterfront. It was also the very same day "Revenge of the Electric Car" had it's world premiere at Tribeca Film Festival later in the evening.

THE PANEL DEBATE IN CONNECTION TO THE SCREENING

The panel debate following the screening of ROTEC will include Lærke Flader, who is the CEO of the Danish Electric Car Alliance.

Søren W. Rasmussen, who is the most electric car skeptic Danish Motor journalist and have written articles like: "Is the Electric Car an Illusion?"

Martin Messer Thomsen, who is one of Denmark's leading Electric Car specialists and very active online and as a test pilot of all new electric cars on the market.

Per Clausen, who is a member of Parliment in the radical left wing political party called "Enhedslisten", where he is in charge of amongst many other issues; Climate, Energy and Culture.

The Moderator of the Panel Debate will be Nikolaj Sonne, who is the TV host of a Danish National TV program about Technology and first mover gadgets. In the spring of 2011, he did an extended program of the Tesla Roadster where he tested the "Tesla Grin" on many Danish celebrities.

One of the main Taxi Companies in Copenhagen plans to have a fleet of Nissan LEAF's, just like in New York and in Mexico City. Here the LEAF drives agains the most common Taxi in Copenhagen, a Mercedes.

A normal gasoline scooter let's out as much CO2 as a 24 wheel truck, due to its lack of filters and low tech motors. The electric scooter is amazing to ride on and let's out o CO2. In the drag race above it outran the gasoline scooter by far.

ELECTRIC STREET AND DRAG RACE IN COPENHAGEN SEPTEMBER 10TH 2011

The above image is of The Electric Hornet developed by our friends "True Cousins", that I have written about before in connection to their electric Drag Race Bike called "Silver Giant" (see below) that currently holds a world record as being the fastest in its category. Read about it in THIS post.

On September 10th 2011, the department within the Copenhagen Municipality called "Grønne Erhverv" translated to "Copenhagen Green Business Network", will produce a a day filled with action and fun for the whole family, including the above HORNET, that will be in a Drag Race agains a gasoline guzzling classic Corvette.

The above video is from 2009 when CO2 E - Race in collaboration with Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix produced the first Electric Drag Race in Copenhagen between the Danish Electric LYNX and the US Electric Tesla. LYNX is also the provider of batteries for the Silver Giant as people in the Green Car area in the small country of Denmark are all one big family! (My couisin even works for Tesla here in Denmark!)

The above poster (click on it to enlarge) is to tell about the Smart Phone APP and Photo Competetion Element that CO2 E - Race have developed for the day, in collaboration with the programmer Henrik Gilvad. By scanning your Smart Phone over the QR Code, you automaticly download the APP and when you take photos with the APP on, they will be uploaded to a site where Yrs Truly will select the best photos of the day and post them on the Facebook Page belonging to Grønne Erhverv. The winner of the best photo will win tickets to a theater play called "Cykelmyggen Egon" (Egon The Bike Mosquito).

The day is part of another "Green Car" event between Denmark and Sweden called "Oresunds Rally"
that is "designed to help put the Oresund region on the world map" as their site says.

On the way back to Islands Brygge and the Cat Walk performance, the rain started to come down pretty hard, but that did not hold back the Mr. Green Crew from telling the people of Amager that "Come and experience the CO2 E - Race CatWalk peformance and Bikini Car Wash on Islands Brygge! Free Food, Free Drinks and Live Music!"

Pimped Out Biomega Bike by David Byrne

In connection to the projects collaboration with Exit Art and Earth Day in April 2011, two Danish Biomega bikes were donated to the project. One was given to Matthew Modine and the other was handed over to David Byrne to be pimped out with 12,000 Swarovski crystals and later raffled off by Exit Art to benefit their excellent non-profit Arts organization. Our good friends from Gold Mine Shit House came to the Exit Art Benefit event and did silkscreens on clothes and such that people brought along, along with live music and a lovely party.

The bike was won by Sinclaire Marber and if all goes well, can be seen in the future at one of the Art exhibitions in connection to the project as a sculpture.

THE FUTURE IS NOT WHAT IT USED TO BE IN COPENHAGEN

On August 13th 2011, the 11th version of the CO2 E - Race Performance will take place in Copenhagen. The 3rd version of the project (after Milan and Riga) was also performed in Copenhagen during the UN Climate Conference COP15 in 2009, the very same day that Obama was in town and the streets were in chaos. This time around, the CO2 tag performance will be done over the area in Copenhagen called Amager, where Yrs Truly also lives.

After the tag performance is done, there will be a "Cat Walk" on Islands Brygge. Islands Brygge (English: Iceland Quay) is a harbourfront area in central Copenhagen, located on the north-western coast of Amager. The neighbourhood is noted for its waterfront park Havneparken, which is one of the most popular areas along the Copenhagen harbourfront and the location of one of the Copenhagen Harbour Baths, with clean swimmable water in the middle of the city.

The abnove image from Google Earth is from Islands Brygge waterfront. The red line indicating where the cars will go from the street, over the little square where the pink rectangle indicates the location of the "Cat Walk" and the orange area the space where the vehicles will be exhibited.

With inspiration from the California environmentalist group "Angry Green Girls" there will be a "Bikini Cars Wash" on the waterfront during the afternoon in connection to the exhibition of vehicles, along with live music and music from "Karma Kanonen" that is a group of gentlemen who have rebuilt Christiania Bikes into sustainable sounds systems running on leg and sun power. THE TIMES SQUARE EXPERIENCE & CATWALK

Mr. Green Crew was all over Times Square lead by Miss Green A.K.A Anne Gade Bjerrum, seen in the middle doing the double "E" hand sign. She is the younger sister of Mr. Green A.K.A Christian Gade Bjerrum that is currently teaching yoga in Mexico City, while preparing the city for CO2 E - Race in 2012.

There was posters all over Grand Central Station with the Earth Day announcement of CO2 E Drive and the Times Square fashion show of "Green Cars". The event included several aspects of Earth Day's awareness campaigns, such as "Reduce Carbon", "Be Energy Aware" and "Travel Green".

In the above image you can see most of the GPS dots that represent the different cars are all in Times Square. The ones that did not go up to Times Square either went to Grand Central Station, back to the Solar One Building or to the premiere of "Revenge of the Electric Car" further down on 23rd Street. It was an amazing day and we were lucky with the weather, with sunshine in the morning. The very next day, the city was polished by a waterfall that gives the city a special vibe with the lights reflecting in the streets. Thanks again Earth Day New York for your huge effort in help making a dream come through and help spread the projects message of Climate Awareness.

It should be no secret that Yrs Truly have become a sucker for the Electric DeLorean. Not only does it give instant flashbacks of Michael J Fox in "Back to the Future" on a skateboard without wheels, but of the Time Machine housed by a E Fluxed DeLorean that took the young hero back in time.

It all comes together in a wonderful way since the first car on the streets of New York City was Electric, where the Croatian inventor and magician Nikola Tesla roamed 34th Street on his way home to the New Yorker Hotel, with the Classic New York Diner on the corner of 34th and 9th Avenue called TIC TOC.

The above Sky Blue Tesla was seen on 5th Avenue and 23rd Street, right in front of the Flatiron Building. If you closely, the passenger is doing a "raise the roof" with a rolled up Danish flag, while the driver is giving Earth Day's "E" hand sign, in a "Be The E" shout-out to her new Danish Homie.

Volvo is working on a Electric Car, but what you see above is the Ocean Blue Nissan LEAF, in traffic among Yellow Cabs going down 5th Avenue "painting" the middle line in the "E".

The New York City Parks Truck with a Diesel Electric Hybrid motor going up Madison Avenue. Yes, the same Madison Avenue as the MAD MAD MEN of MAD MEN.

And of course the Electric DeLorean taking the first turn in the E tag (the lower line).

The above is the sculpture of a head called "ECHO" that is placed in the middle of Madison Park, where both 5th Avenue and Madison Avenue brush gently up against her.

The Vogel Bilt Ethanol fueled pick up truck, that was fed Ethanol since the day it was taken in use, with no harm. The car was driven by President of the Long Island Electric Auto Association Carl Vogel, who is also Board of Director at the Electric Auto Association, the author of "Build Your Own Electric Motorcycle" and "Build Your Own Electric Plug-in Hybrid Boat".

Many cab drivers complain about the new bicycle lanes in New York City. The probably don't know that they are called "Copenhagen Lanes" and are designed by the Danish architect and urban design consultant based in Copenhagen Jan Gehl, whose career has focused on improving the quality of urban life by re-orienting city design towards the pedestrian and cyclist. I would never have thought that New York would ever become a bicycle city, but now it is.

Copenhagen Lanes or not, this lovely lady probably never cared about lanes anyway.

In the above satellite image over the area of New York where the "E" was done, you can see some of the cars finishing the "E" painting and a Purple dot, showing that the Novozymes Bio Fueled Ford Focus is on it's way to Times Square for the Show Part of the Day.

The New York plans for the project is taking shape and a "E" route has been done. The New York version will be done April 22nd in collaboration with Earth Day New York and will start at the Solar One Building by the East River close to 23rd Street. This time around the route will be in the shape of an "E" and not "CO2", since the Earth Day slogan is "Be the E" and is a take on Ghandi's quote: "Be the change you want to see in the world".

After the CO2 friendly vehicles have done the "E" route through the streets of Manhattan, they will go to Times Square where there will be a runway presentation and exhibition of a selection of the vehicles. The E "painting" can be seen LIVE online and on the Toshiba jumbo screen on Times Square.

In celebration of Earth Day on April 22, Exit Art is pleased to announce a celebration of CO2-friendly cars through an exhibition that documents its erratic history and an CO2-friendly car showcase. AUTOTOPIA: CARS FOR A BETTER TOMORROW, a project of SEA (Social Environmental Aesthetics), focuses on the history of the electric car in connection with political and environmental factors that have revolutionized the methods and technologies of transit.

The first electric car (above), made over 100 years ago, was invented soon after the combustion engine vehicle (the kind of engines we use today) was developed as a new way of powering automobiles. Today, electric cars must be seen as serious alternatives to the gasoline powered-vehicles that are depleting fossil fuel supplies, polluting the environment, and exacerbating our dependence on foreign oil.

Cars are now being designed to enhance our lives – through the integration of digital communication systems – and improve our future, by providing a solution to our energy crisis. Wireless Internet allows vehicles to connect and share data on traffic patterns, intelligently coordinating movements and keeping drivers connected to social networks. The reinvention of the automobile, and the infrastructures that make it possible, will not be easy – but it will be essential.

This exhibition coincides with Earth Day, and is organized concurrently with the CO2 E-Race, the culminating event of New York City’s Earth Day celebration. Initiated in 2008, the CO2 E-Race (A Race for Climate Awareness) increases public awareness of global climate changes using CO2-friendly vehicles as a way to spread the message. The New York E-Race is a parade of CO2-friendly cars through the streets of Manhattan; connected to GPS devices, their route can be tracked online and on the Toshiba jumbo screen in Times Square. The “E” shape formed by the parade draws attention to Earth Day and CO2-friendly cars as the future of transportation, encouraging the public to “erase” climate change.

ELECTRIC CAR SHOWCASE - ONE DAY ONLY!

Saturday, April 23, 2011 / 12-6pm

Following the CO2 E- Race, Exit Art will exhibit several participating CO2-friendly cars in a showcase format. Tesla Motors will be showing an electric, zero-emissions Orange Roadster, which gets 245 miles per charge and goes from 0 to 60mph in 3.7 seconds. A converted Electric DeLorean (above) will also be on view, along with a Biofueled (E85) driven Ford Fusion FFV from the Danish company Novozymes.

2pm: Jacob Fuglsang Mikkelsen, the organizer and artist behind the CO2 E-Race, will give a brief talk about the origins of the project and the environmental issues it seeks to address.

The next version of the project will take place in Parma’s city centre and will be a core part of the first edition of the VE Show – an international convention focused on electric vehicles and sustainable mobility, which will be held at Parma’s Exhibition Centre on March 26th 2011. It will be produced in collaboration with Ragnarock Association, who produced the Milan version in November 2010 and June 2009.

ISLAND THINKING

The small island called Ærø (Aeroe), with a flag very similar to the Rastafari flag and the world's largest Solar Panel Plant along with a bunch of windmills all over the island, is expanding its green profile.

The latest great news from Ærø is their new little armada of Electric Cars. Since the Island is rather small, one never needs to run out of energy as there are chargers installed in strategic places.

The cars can be rented from the local tourist agency during the summer when the island is packed with tourists that flock the almost too good to be true romantic and lovely little Danish Micro Cosmos of classic Danishness and cozyness. The rest of the year the cars are used by the municipality for hospice services around the island. One could say that we all live on an island. The island we move around on a daily basis; Home, work, shopping, school and close friends. Most of these places are withing a "island radius" and it it is really here the electric car is perfect. If they all can just be charged by windmills on that island...

THE ROSKILDE VERSION ON JULY 4TH 2010

Many wonderful things came together on July 4th when the project was produced in the city of Roskilde and at the Roskilde Festival.

The above CO2 painting over Roskilde was made by the 7 year old Sasha Estella and a follow-up event for children will take place again in Roskilde in connection with the installation of the permanent LED Light route through the city.

The White Tesla from Vind Energy and the White Melex from Svenningsen's on display at the morning Electric Car Exhibition on the main square of Roskilde City, with the Roskilde Cathedral in the background where Danish King's and Queens have been buried for centuries.

There was also a small exhibition of the cars and a scooter in front of the Roskilde Municipality Building. The second car in line after the red Citroen was a solar powered car from Ben & Jerry's.

Captian Hope held his now classic Ode to Ra or "The Sunny Happy People Speech"

Mr. Green and his Climate Clowns and Crew performed for the Roskilde children at the nearby Public Library, on the Square and all over the Roskilde Festival.

Mr. Green was also in charge of the PAINT in the form of color coded GPS devices to be installed in all the vehicles part of the painting performance.

THE CO2 E - RACE PHOTOGRAPHY PROJECT
December 13th 2009, along the CO2 route

On the 13th of December, there will besides the CO2 painting, be a photography project for anyone to join. The concept is to "geotag" the CO2 route through Copenhagen with images of the CO2 friendly cars by uploading them to Google Maps or Earth. See the first set of images uploaded by Michael Wolffhechel below.

It is a way to gather many people, images and intentions for climate awareness by creating a huge CO2 tag over Copenhagen with images of Electric Cars. This will also give the illusion that Copenhagen is filled with Electric Cars, as the vision of the CO2 E - Race is working on.

After the whole CO2 painting, the GPS devices will be delivered to the Green Vision Crew by Hans Christian Andersen's Palace.

The CO2 route goes by classic Copenhagen visual wonders.

The cars will pass by The Governments Museum of Art as part of the "2" in the CO2 route.

The "C" starts at Forum and the Bright Green exhibition

The cars will go over Queen Louise's Bridge, going down Nørrebrogade towards Nørreport Station.

PIMP MY HOPE AT THE DANISH NATIONAL MUSEUM

The HOPE, was the first Danish Electric car produced in 1982. However, it was never put into final production and has become a sad legendary story about a failed Danish industrial dream. The story told as part of the workshops and story telling at the Danish National Museum, was to tell children that "even if you fail once, you should always get back up on the horse and try again"

The above recycled cardboard version of the "Hope" car was designed by Jacob Fuglsang Mikkelsen and Will Gurley, who is also one of the main designers for Copenhagen's Tivoli Gardens.

The children each got a "kit" with the many different parts for building their own Hope.

The above is an example of a "pimped up" version of the Hope car, made by one of the children, along with workshops and performances at the Danish National Museum every sunday in November 2009.

Captian Hope - The Climate Super Hero also came and entertained the kids!

...and of course Mr. Green and his climate clown posse

"Pimp my Hope" - The children wrote their hopes for the future on the large Hope Car parts in a workshop and then together with Will and Jacob assembled it into the above 3D cardboard car.

The "sketch" was made with the help of an Ellert (Danish Electric Car), a bicycle and a Jaguar XF-E as the "brushes". The GPS was the placed on each vehicle functioning as "paint". The White Lines is the GPS track transfered to a map over Copenhagen from 1954 given to the project/sponsored by the Danish Consultancy company within Engineering, Environmental Science and Economics called COWI. The image will be printed into a limited edition, hand colored series of Lithographs.

Both Better Place and BYD have chosen Denmark as the European launch pad for their contrasting electric car concepts
As regular readers of our news will know, the Danish government's decision as part of the current energy policy agreement to tax-exempt electric cars until at least 2012, has attracted a great deal of interest from automobile manufacturers worldwide. Hardly surprising either, considering that it's a 180% tax that has been lifted – no small price advantage against combustion engine competition.

The government's astute move has turned Denmark into a potential El-dorado, as electric car manufacturers have quickly grasped that in addition to the obvious financial incentive, the country's convenient size, abundance of green electricity generation (especially from wind), future-ready transport infrastructure, and population known for its climate consciousness as well as its fast adoption of new technologies, make Denmark an ideal European test bed for their electric car concepts.

Already, there are two fascinatingly contrasting approaches that are set to roll out here in the not-too-distant future, as professional journal Ingeniøren (The Engineer) reports.

One is Shai Agassi's Better Place electric car scheme, backed by Renault-Nissan and Denmark's leading integrated energy company DONG Energy. The key point to note about Better Place, which will start mass marketing in Denmark in 2011, is that you buy the car but not the battery – the latter component is leased.

Contrastingly, China's rapidly growing auto manufacturer BYD (Build Your Dreams), which has already announced that Denmark is to be the first European country where it will launch its pure electric E6 model and 3F DM hybrid – also in 2011 – will be selling the car complete with a battery which the company itself manufactures (one of the very few to do so).

Morten Rask of Århus University, who researches into electric car concepts, comments to Ingeniøren: "People are accustomed to buying cars that they can immediately drive, where all the components are integrated in the product. That's an advantage for BYD. On the other hand it requires that customers can be persuaded to pay for the battery, which is an extremely expensive component of an electric car."

Time will tell how the contrasting concepts of Better Place and BYD will be received by the purchasing public. But one thing is for sure. Denmark will be the first to provide the answers, and is set to serve as a bellwether for the potential evolution of the coming electric mass-transport market in Europe."

The Orbiting Carbon Observatory is the first spacecraft dedicated to studying carbon dioxide in Earth’s atmosphere. Carbon dioxide is the main human-produced driver of climate change. The satellite will provide the first global picture of human and natural sources of carbon dioxide and will find places on Earth where it is stored.

Electric Cars Light Up Detroit Auto Show 2009

New Concept Cars Unveiled, Volt Battery Pack Manufacturing Facility announced the potential of electric-powered cars was a highlight of the 2009 NAIAS Detroit Auto Show with several automakers unveiling their latest concepts and making big announcements.

General Motors announced that Chevrolet Volt will use battery packs manufactured in the United States. The plant will be located in Michigan and will be the first lithium-ion battery pack manufacturing facility operated by a major US automaker. Facility preparation will begin in early 2009, with output starting in 2010.

Finnish utility Fortum is promising to install 100 electric charging stations in the city of Stockholm in the coming year. Even though that probably won't put Stockholm or Sweden at the absolute head of the electric pack (Oslo will likely have well over 100 stations by the end of next year), Stockholm's move is a good one. The city unveiled its first two permanent charging stations, and three more at different points at the city's edges will soon be in place. ISTANBUL TRANSPORTATION

Once upon a time--way back in 1871--Istanbul had some of the most innovative public transportation around. The Tünel funicular, which still carries tourists and residents alike up the steep hill from Karaköy to the southern end of Istiklal Caddesi, was the second underground subway line in the world, after London's. Maalesef (alas), it took 129 years for the city to open another one.

The historic ferry system plying the Bosphorus between Istanbul's Asian and European sides is as scenic and enjoyable as public transit gets, but land-bound options have lagged behind. Though bus and dolmuş (private mini-buses) routes crisscross the city, most face the same traffic woes as private cars. A light-rail metro, opened in 1994, and the finally expanded subway are generally clean, quick, and efficient, but fall far short of full coverage. Istanbul's yellow cabs are also one of the main options used to get around the city, but they are everything but CO2 neutral.

The prototype replaces the flat six engine with a brushless three-phase motor powered by lithium-ion batteries. Although not as quick as a petrol-engined 911, Ruf’s engineers say the eRUF is still good for a 0-100km/h (60mph) time of under 7.0sec and has a top speed of 255km/h (160mph).
